Yard No. 460 is a proposed shipwreck recovery centre (first of its kind) for the recovery of ships lost in an near the River Clyde,
Scotland.
It’s a project exploring the region’s rich shipbuilding history, modern conservation practices, human/ocean relationships, natural materials, climatic conditions and self-sufficiency.
Background
The last ship to be built in Bowling Harbour, Scotland, was “yard no. 459 Laggard”, a tug boat. It was completed in 1979, just before the shipyard closed for good, fell into disrepair, and was later removed, like much of Scoltand’s proud shipbuilding industry at the same time. In this historic location sits Yard No. 460 - a shipwreck recovery centre, tasked with safely recovering ships and boats lost in the nearby River Clyde, so that they can be studied for future generations.
